London,
Description: A new exhibition of work by one of the pioneers of the art therapy movement will launch next month at the Stirling Prize nominated Kentish Town Health Centre in Camden, London. The show, by Elisabeth Tomalin, will be one of the first to be held in the new building and will bring together some of Elisabeth's embroideries and symbolic paintings produced over many years working as a designer and art therapist. Of her own work, Elisabeth Tomalin said: "I am working now with these embroideries as my fingers are no longer able to do finer work. “The pictures in the exhibition show different periods of my life expressed in a visual form. As well as day-to-day reality, they relate to my personal life, and focus on the symbolism of the inner search. “Colours, shapes, figures and compositions of the images represent my intuitive steps on a path towards individuation or wholeness, they are not abstract - the symbols have a value that may also resonate, like dream images, shared with others, or as signposts." Themes in Elisabeth’s work include: solitude, the cosmic journey, family connections, forces in dynamic balance, conflict and healing, striving towards the light, devotion, reflection, aspiration, the forces of growth, a holy prayer, temptation and redemption, losing and finding, seasons and elements.
