An exhibition spotlighting the beginning to Andy Warhol's career is among the must-see shows and it's your last chance to see Max Penson's photography at Somerset House...

Andy Warhol 1948-1960
Timothy Taylor Gallery, W1
Today marks the 20th anniversary of Andy Warhol's death but this exhibition spotlights the beginning of his career. With more than 100 works on paper, it shows how he found his creative way. Newly arrived in Manhattan from Pittsburgh, he worked as an advertising illustrator, and this show digs deep into his commercial portfolio, though there are telling scraps of personal work, too. Until 3 March.

Canaletto in England
Dulwich Picture Gallery, SE1
By the time Canaletto arrived in England in 1746, his paintings had already made themselves at home here, brought back by Grand Tourists. A gently revelatory exhibition. Until 15 April.

Anselm Kiefer: Aperiatur Terra
White Cube, W1, and Royal Academy of Arts, W1
Christian theology, a 13-metre palm tree and two concrete towers feature in this dual-venue exhibition of new pieces by one of the strongest artists at work today. (White Cube: 020 7930 5373; Royal Academy: 020 7300 8000). Until 17 March.

LAST CHANCE Max Penson: Photographs
Gilbert Collection, Somerset House, WC2
For almost a quarter of a century, Max Penson worked for Soviet Central Asia's largest newspaper, Pravda Vostoka. By the time anti-Semitism forced him to quit in 1948, he'd amassed an archive of some 30,000 images. More than 200 are on show here. (020 7845 4600). Until Saturday.

Henry Moore: War and Utility
Imperial War Museum, SE1
In 1939 Henry Moore picked up his sketchpad and created some of his most poignant works. At the heart of this impressive exhibition are his famed Shelter Drawings of the crowded Underground platforms where Londoners huddled during the Blitz. (020 7416 5320). Until Sunday.
