Art imitates life: Artist Andrew Shoben, of Greyworld, with the new South Bank piece

Sculpture changes shape by copying passers-by

Evening Standard   20 Nov 2007

A sculpture that imitates the people around it goes on show on the South Bank today.

The 20ft bronze animatronic figure changes its pose as passers-by decide, effectively creating thousands of sculptures in one.

Property developers Land Securities commissioned the work from Greyworld, an art collective, to engage workers and shoppers at its Bankside 123 development and visitors to Tate Modern next door.

The work is called Monument To The Unknown Artist.

Mike Hussey of Land Securities said the firm believed it "reflects the artistic and performance driven spirit of Bankside".
