Contradictions: Emperor Hadrian

The British Museum is to mount the first exhibition dedicated to the life and legacy of the Roman emperor Hadrian.

It is borrowing exhibits from more than 30 countries from Georgia to Israel to tell the story of the man famed for his wall.

A spokeswoman said it would examine the contradictions of his personality and reign. He was a military man and homosexual whose young Greek lover, Antinous, accompanied him on his travels through an empire then larger than the EU.

Hadrian Returns To Britain runs from 24 July until 26 October.

This Exhibition sounds interesting in probably a lot of ways, (depends on what is shown, after all!) but what does his sexuality have to do with it? I have more problems saying his friend's name than the friendship itself!
