It's not every day you get hit by a low-flying dinghy during a comedy show. But Bring Me The Head of Adam Riches, which won the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Foster's Comedy Award, is no ordinary comedy show.

Riches pushes audience participation to its ultimate limit, crafting a gloriously stupid and unique event which literally puts the public centre-stage.

In a series of furiously energetic sketches, Riches repeatedly plucks out unlucky punters. It says much about this Richard Gere lookalike's persuasive charm that everyone consented. Stand-out skits include a hardcore swingball match that would terrify the health and safety brigade, a skateboard race on the backs of sidekicks dressed as lizards (don't ask ...) and a lipsmackingly intense Daniel Day Lewis acting masterclass.

The production crackles with smart gags and a constant frisson as Riches skilfully treads a precarious line between playfulness and harassment. If there is a caveat it is his schoolboyish fixation on bottoms and bodily fluids.

But this is a minor quibble, overshadowed by a towering, totally committed performance. Grab a ticket, hide at the back and enjoy. I got off lightly being hit by that dinghy.
