Aussie winning over fans

The consensus is that there is no stand-out stand-up show this year at the Fringe. To which I can only suggest hotfooting it to see loudmouthed Aussie Brendon Burns, not just winning hearts and minds, but f***ing with them in ways that will remind you of the late, great Bill Hicks.
Sporting whiskers that make him 'look like Wolverine or a 1920s gay strongman', he's heralded on to the stage by two scantily clad showgirls: one black, one white, so how can he be accused of racism, right? He then launches into a dynamic, hour-long set railing against reality TV, the war on terror, men, women, national pride, and self accountability - at the core of which is the parodic nature of race. When you see the show you'll see how fun that can be.
Until Sunday, Pleasance Dome, 8.30pm, £12 and £13.
