Business as usual for Hoyle

Week three of this issue-based, gay knees-up Magazine from David Hoyle, aka Divine David, saw him telling us how, that night, we were going to learn about immigration.
'Not all immigrants are prostitutes, although it may seem like that,' he said, following up with: 'Although it's lovely being white, some people aren't and as a result they can have a really hard time.'
Hoyle interviewed a Ugandan immigrant called Kizzie who was arrested in his home country for being a gay activist. He came to Britain and was held in a detention centre for nine months while his application was processed.
Hoyle asked him to tell us about the traumas he faced in the centre but then interrupted him with a free-form monologue about 'the white man' chopping up Africa in the days of imperialism. This and other detours left Kizzie a bit nonplussed. Still, combining the weighty topics of the day with having a big camp laugh was never going to be an easy prospect.
For the grand finale, it was business as usual - Hoyle expressed his feelings about immigration through avantgarde movement, contemporary dance and painting. Marvellous!
Magazine is more fun when dealing with the superficial - Lea from Big Brother, a male prostitute pulling a bike chain out of his bum - and 'issues' such as this only result in the audience celebrating their own liberal credentials.
Still, it's all a bit of a laugh - and tonight it's 'dogging'. Hooray!
