Hot tickets: Weekend comedy
02 September 2011
Milton Jones/Pete Firman
This Chiswick club celebrates its ninth birthday this weekend with an enviable line-up. Every comedy fan should love man of a thousand one-liners Jones; Firman is another gem, an excellent magician blending classic trickery with wonderfully daft patter. Steve Gribbin also chips in with his note-perfect musical spoofs.
Until tomorrow, Headliners, W4 (020 7221 4450, headlinerscomedy.com)
Claudia O'Doherty
Whimsy alert. The title of this award-winning Australian's show is What Is Soil Erosion? but geologists should steer clear. You will not learn about rock formation here, but lovers of offbeat humour will relish O'Doherty's mock-pitch for a TV science series. Inventive, charming fun with the quirkiness dial turned up to 11.
Until Sept 3, Soho Theatre, W1 (020 7478 0100, sohotheatre.com)
Neil Hamburger
If you've seen too many slick stand-ups, Hamburger may be the antidote. The only thing slick about this American is the oily hair scraped across his scalp. He is the ultimate anti-comedian, delivering punchlines that are so bad they are hilarious.
Until Sept 10, Soho Theatre, W1
