Birdsong's Clémence Poésy joins Evening Standard Film Awards presenters

Clémence Poésy, from BBC First World War drama Birdsong, and Downton Abbey's Elizabeth McGovern will be among presenters honouring colleagues at the ceremony dedicated to the best of British.

Matt Smith - a Standard Theatre Awards nominee for best newcomer in his pre-Doctor Who days - is joining the line-up of hosts, with Warwick Davis, Noel Fielding, Ruth Negga and Alexandra Roach, who has been hailed as a rising star for her performance as the young Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.

Two of Britain's leading directors will also present awards - Stephen Daldry, whose new film Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is up for best picture at the Oscars, and Stephen Frears, who has just made the comedy Lay The Favorite with Bruce Willis. Stephen Mangan, the Episodes and Green Wing star, returns as master of ceremonies on Monday at the London Film Museum, County Hall, for the third year.

The nominees include some of the biggest stars in British cinema with Rachel Weisz, Tilda Swinton, Vanessa Redgrave, Kenneth Branagh and Gary Oldman all in contention. Potential future stars could also be confirmed in the most promising newcomer category, including The IT Crowd's Richard Ayoade, who has moved into directing with Submarine.

Winners are decided by a panel. Evening Standard editor Geordie Greig, with our film critics Derek Malcolm, Charlotte O'Sullivan and David Sexton, are joined by the Daily Telegraph's Tim Robey, Kate Muir of the Times and Anthony Quinn of the Independent.

The Standard has held its film awards since 1973 - past winners include Daniel Day-Lewis, Daniel Craig, Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant. The awards are held in association with the London Film Museum and supported by Moët & Chandon.
