Bollywood ghost story

There's horror of a different variety in Bhool Bhulaiyaa, a naive Bollywood ghost story that hovers somewhere between Clue and The Grudge, without either film's panache, pace or suspense.

It sees prodigal son (Shiney Ahuja) return from the US with new bride (Vidya Balan) to take possession of the haunted family palace, dismissing rumours of a vengeful spirit as hokey old superstition.

Soon the appalling wailing starts - and I'm not just talking about the dance numbers. So said son calls in his wacky chum, a shrink called Dr Aditya (the film's star Akshay Kumar - of Namastey London fame) to solve the mystery. Kumar does his usual goon act and the production values aren't bad.

But the greatest mystery is why these films have to be so blinking long when you've cracked whodunnit in the first ten minutes?
