Hong Kong actor-director Stephen Chow had international success with his lively Shaolin Soccer and the very funny Kung Fu Hustle. His third film stars Xu Jiao, who is female, as a small boy sent to an elite school by his hard-working builder father.
He becomes the possessor of CJ7, a magical toy with the properties of an ET-like alien. This stops him being bullied and allows Chow to pay homage to Spielberg, Mission Impossible and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Boney M and Chopin share the soundtrack of this comedy which has as many special effects as jokes. Good for kids, probably of all ages.
