Harry's fifth film makes £164m at box office

The newest Harry Potter film has already made more than £164 million at the box office, making it the most successful so far in the series.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, the fifth film in the series about the boy wizard, raked in £95 million in 44 territories outside North America and was No 1 in every market in which it opened.

In the US and Canada, the final box office tally was £38 million for the weekend and £69 million for the first five days after its debut last week, according to studio figures.

The movie marked the biggest opening ever for Warner Bros Pictures International, the company said.

Based on the best-selling books by JKRowling, the Harry Potter films have become major blockbusters. The first four films combined have sold about £1.7 billion worth of tickets worldwide.
