There's nothing worse than preachy comedies but at least Ice Cube, the star of playwright David D Talbert’s maiden feature, is an actor who gets better with time, which means that a not very good film has its moments.

He plays a divorced man down on his luck; unless he gets some money to support his ex-wife (Regina Hall), he is likely to lose contact with his adored son.

So he and his best friend (Tracy Morgan) go to a run-down church and rob the collection plate. But they even make a mess of that — until heart-warming back stories come to light and a court scene of ineffable silliness grinds to its conclusion.
