In love with a plastic doll

In Craig Gillespie's hopefully sensitive film, Ryan Gosling plays Lars, a poor mutt who introduces his brother and sister-in-law to his new friend Bianca.

She is a plastic doll and he loves her dearly. The inhabitants of his sleepy mid-western town consult the local doctor, who advises them to go along with the charade.

Soon Bianca is attending church, modelling at the local dress shop, volunteering at the hospital and, of course, sleeping chastely with her delusional owner.

Gosling is a decent actor who does as well as he can in fairly ludicrous circumstances. But the story is fundamentally as silly as it sounds.
