Inspired by the 1980 thriller of the same title — a slasher movie with Jamie Lee Curtis as the scream queen — this tepid film eschews the violence and goes instead for suspense.

Brittany Snow is the teen who, on Senior Prom night, tries to avoid the deranged, erotomanic predator who slaughtered her parents and younger brother and has now escaped from a maximum security jail. Unfortunately, the director Nelson McCormick hasn’t much of a clue how to do it. Johnathon Schaech is the villain of the piece — and even he would have a hard job frightening a mouse.
