Lacking the light touch

It's fun to watch good-looking neurotics fall in love, right? But this offering from Polish director Maciej Zak lacks the requisite light touch.

A thirtysomething woman, Matylda (Magdalena Rózczka) wants a baby even more than she wants a man, so puts an ad in the paper asking for a sperm donor to get in touch.

Soulful chef Bartek (Marcin Dorocinski) answers the ad and endless tedious misunderstandings ensue. Rózczka - with her toothpaste ad smile - manages to make her character seem both certifiable and bland.

Midnight Talks put me in the mood for something: a stiff drink.
