Based on the Newbery award-winning book sequence by Susan Cooper, The Dark Is Rising tells the story of an ordinary young boy who is surprised to learn he is the last of a posse of warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the powers of evil. The future of the world is therefore in his hands.

The film, however, is in the hands of David L Cunningham, an American, who made it in England with a plethora of special effects but a cast who look decidedly awkward in their parts.

Alexander Ludwig is able as the boy, but Ian McShane and Christopher Eccleston are miscast as Mr Good and Mr Evil.
