Lawrence's welcome return

Roscoe Jenkins (Martin Lawrence) is a successful talk-show "doctor" whose trip down South to celebrate his parents’ 50th anniversary forces him to reappraise his glitzy life.

The surprise is that the home he returns to is so far from ideal. The offbeat mood may be caused by the presence of so many comedians (Mo’Nique, Louis CK, Cedric the Entertainer) who, you suspect, ad-libbed the racier lines. Some of the gags have dated — but there’s an irreverence to the project, an energy, that keeps you guessing. No need to give this comedy the red carpet; still, it would be a shame to slam the door in its face.

Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins
