Nasty, brutish and long, Julian Gilbey's slice of Essex life is based on the autobiography of football-thug-turned-gangster Carlton Leach.

That book (Muscle) provided zero insight into the violence and the film doesn't do much better.

Leach (Ricci Harnett) spends two decades smashing people's skulls; then, for no apparent reason, he tires of torture, the film tires of him and the focus shifts to his even more sadistic friends.

Those looking for vicarious thrills will appreciate the wall-to-wall carnage, everyone else will wonder what the hell's going on in this inept, derivative film.
