Emmanuel Mouret is the writer, director and star of this gentle romantic comedy set in Paris. An unassuming French horn player, David (Mouret), falls for a shy student, Julia (Fanny Valette). Meanwhile, dizzy Anne (Frederique Bel) takes a shine to a globe-trotting customer who wanders into her photocopying shop.

Mouret’s smart script plays with its various stereotypes — Anne is more than a daffy blonde, Julia more than an inscrutable brunette. David’s passivity turns out to be a form of strength. The acting from all three leads is superb.

The trouble is that Eric Rohmer has been making films like this since the Sixties, somehow managing to inject them with an urgency and poignancy. Change of Address has no such resonance, which is why it’s easy to like and impossible to love.
