Based on the Korean Tale of Two Sisters, Charles and Tom Guard’s horror thriller makes a fairly comprehensive hash of the original. What on earth will transpire when the promised American version of the brilliant Swedish vampire movie Let the Right One In is unleashed upon us?
There are no bloodsuckers here. But Rachel (Elizabeth Banks), who has nursed the deceased wife of Steven (David Strathairn) and now beds the widower, is a vamp of sorts. Did she really set fire to the house, thus killing the sick woman? Or is that the fantasy of Steven’s daughter, Anna (Emily Browning), who returns from a psychiatric hospital to investigate the tragedy?
Anna has visions of her mother’s ghost and has to survive the hostility of her elder sister Alex (Arielle Kebbel) and the impatience of her father, determined to live happily again. But her investigations into Rachel’s past make her certain that there’s nothing happy about Dad’s new relationship.

The Uninvited is decently shot and acted but has a silly ending that negates most of what has gone before.
