Stupid plot lost in Red Mist

"You’re talking crazy," says one character to another in Paddy Breathnach’s American-made horror, "this doesn’t make any kind of sense."

Boy, was he right. The plot is total rubbish, and no amount of slick film-making can make you believe it is worth all the blood and gore we have to sit through. The doubtful heroine is Arielle Kebbel’s young doctor, Catherine, who injects a comatose patient with an untested wonder drug. Instead of helping him, it jolts him into an out-of-body state which allows him to possess innocent people and use them to murder nearly everyone in sight, including lots of semi-naked girls.

Breathnach, whose first feature, I Went Down, premiered at Cannes, has now regressed into making movies like this one and Shrooms. That’s a pity — but Red Mist has a shrewd sense of the box office if nothing else.
