Terminated: Arnie will not be back

He famously predicted: 'I'll be back.' But Arnie certainly won't be back for the next Terminator movie.

Arnold Schwarznegger is not in the producers' plans for Terminator 4, which is set for release in the summer of 2009.

The new film is rumoured to pick up with John Connor in his 30s leading what is left of the human race against the machines.

It is seen as the start of a new trilogy and an attempt to reinvent the franchise with new cast and plotlines, in the same mould as Batman and James Bond.

The proposal follows the sale of the cyborg saga to Halcyon Co. It bought all rights to the franchise from the feuding founding fathers, Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar, for an undisclosed-amount, according to Variety magazine. The new film is said to have a script by the writers of T3.

Moritz Borman, former boss of Intermedia Films and executive producer of Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines will produce.

There is currently no director or cast secured but the film is still expected in two years.

Borman said: 'With 'T3 we set the stage for an entirely new set of inter-related stories covering the future adventures of John Connor and the Terminators. This new Terminator trilogy will build upon the already huge worldwide Terminator fan base.'
