Thatcher set for big screen

First it was the Queen, now Lady Thatcher is to be immortalised on the big screen.

BBC Films and Pathe are making a film about the 17 days immediately prior to the Falklands War, trade journal Variety reported.

The film will portray Lady Thatcher as an unpopular Prime Minister whose fortunes were transformed by her decision to reclaim the Falklands from the Argentinians in 1982.

It will show her "wrestling with her own private fears, facing down the men who doubted her and forging her image as the Iron Lady", according to Variety.

Producer Damian Jones devised the concept with scriptwriter Brian Fillis.

Jones's previous credits include The History Boys and Kidulthood, while Fillis made his screen writing debut last year in the BBC's Fanny Cradock biopic, Fear of Fanny.

Film company Pathe was one of the financiers of The Queen, which earned a best actress Oscar for Dame Helen Mirren.
