Danny and Oxide Pang, two Hong Kong brothers, made Bangkok: Dangerous, a confused hit-man story which evoked a small stir when shown here recently for its sound and editing. Their new film, a contemporary Chinese ghost story, is at least an advance into coherence.

A blind twentysomething girl (Angelica Lee Sum-Kit) has a corneal graft, but with returning sight sees spooky entities connected with the dead donor. (Think The Sixth Sense.)

Her bedroom metamorphoses into a doomy habitation in distant Thailand and eventually, in a gridlock traffic jam, the congestion of deceased people conveys a premonition of disaster. (Think The Mothman Prophecies.)

It's too soon to tell if the Pangs are more than clever opportunists who cash in on global trends.

What's not in doubt is their technical sophistication: the outof-focus spectres, flitting in and out of the girl's perspective, successfully join the real world with the spirit world. A curiosity, The Eye. Visually interesting: but with less in it than meets the eye.
