Tyrannosaur star named best actress

Television comedy star Olivia Colman beat the best in Hollywood last night as she was named best actress in a shortlist that included Vanessa Redgrave, Rachel Weisz, Carey Mulligan and Tilda Swinton.

Colman, 38, of Peckham, currently plays the vicar's wife in Rev but was honoured for her devastating performance as an abused wife in Paddy Considine's debut, Tyrannosaur.

"This is the thing I will be most proud of until I die, this film - apart from my husband and children," she said, in a speech which saw her close to tears. She said she was "not getting carried away" by the win. "I've got kids who still have a temperature now and again and still need breakfast early each morning. So it's not like the world has changed. I will go back to being a mum when this all dies down."

Ed Sinclair, her writer husband, said the film made him weep. "It's hard to watch because it's true. It's a beautiful film," he said. "I'm very proud of her performance. When people you love get the chance to show how good they are, it's a very moving experience."
