Brad Paisley, O2 Arena - review

Those who believe that country music is of interest only to Americans would have benefited from a visit to the O2 last night.
London's largest indoor venue was packed with punters eager to hear the sounds of Brad Paisley, a Stetson-wearing country singer from West Virginia.
The 38-year-old, who has had no fewer than 16 number one singles in the US, was officially here to promote his ninth album, This is Country Music.
But as he said: "The great thing about playing in England is that I get to play whatever I want, because you don't know which ones were hits and which ones weren't."
Hits or no, Paisley's songs are humorous nuggets, peppered with pop culture references and his own rapid-fire guitar solos. Celebrity lampooned the reality-TV culture, while I'm Still A Guy poked fun at metrosexuals ("I don't highlight my hair, I've still got a pair; honey, I'm still a guy", indeed).
A guy he may be, but the West Virginian wasn't above the odd cliché: She's Everything and This is Country Music were cheesier than a fondue set.
But when Paisley sang I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song) - a laugh-out-loud ballad about choosing going out fishing over staying in with one's betrothed - it was easy to see why we Brits are also hooked on this cheeky country crooner.
