TRACK OF THE WEEK
Jamelia - Beware of the Dog
The R&B star's latest single is far and away the highlight of her new album, Walk with Me. Yes, it's essentially Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus with different lyrics, but as that song has one of the greatest dirty riffs of all time, it still sounds fresh. It's in shops next week but can be downloaded from online stores now.
THE BUZZ
The Bees
The retro Isle of Wight band are building expectations for next year's third album by putting out download-only single Left Foot Stepdown this week, a spooky ska number with strong echoes of the Specials. www.thebees.info
IN THE NEWS
The race is on to download the 100 millionth track from online store eMusic, with the winner promised a lifetime subscription and a song written about them by Canadian jokers the Barenaked Ladies. Whether that makes you hurry along to www.emusic.com or stick with market leader iTunes is only a matter of taste.
WEB EXCLUSIVE
Hanson - Great Divide
The boy band-turned-grown-up rockers recently made a trip to Mozambique and South Africa, which inspired them to write a new song and release it online to mark World Aids Day. It's available in the iTunes store from Monday. All proceeds go to Soweto's HIV Research Unit.
THE BLOG
Said the Gramophone
One of the longest-running MP3 blogs is based in Edinburgh and has been enthusing about leftfield new music since 2003. Founder Sean Michaels also writes fiction, so the blog is not as dry as some rivals, while his passion for acts such as Grizzly Bear and Bonnie "Prince" Billy is spot-on too. www.saidthegramophone.com
