Emeli Sande: Brit award is 'amazing'
16 February 2012
Emeli Sande said it is an "amazing feeling" to have won a Brit Award before her debut album hit the shelves.
The singer was in Glasgow performing for fans and signing copies of her debut album Our Version Of Events, which was released on Monday.
Sande will collect the critics' choice prize at the Brit Awards next week, capping a busy year for the singer.
She said: "The last year has been really fast. I've been in the background for the last couple of years behind music with songwriting, so performing myself has made the last year just very, very fast and very exciting.
"Its great to get acknowledgement from the industry, and to have people championing you is fantastic.
"I'm looking forward to the Brits next week and it's an amazing feeling to have an award before the album is even released, I can't really believe it."
Sande, from Aberdeenshire, studied at medical school in Glasgow as a teenager and was delighted to be back performing in the city.
She said: "I came to Glasgow when I was 17 and I loved it. It was the perfect city - great for being a student and I had a lot of fun here.
"There are lots of places I want to go back and visit, so it's great to be back and to feel the support is really amazing.
Around 300 fans queued outside HMV on Buchanan Street to meet the singer and they were not disappointed as she performed acoustic versions of hit songs Heaven, Daddy and new single Next To Me.
All the songs are on her debut album, which she described as "very intimate and soulful".
