MTV to host London launch for annual new music award

MTV UK + Ireland are to announce the artists shortlisted for their annual new music talent search at a major showcase event in London next week.

Seven-piece hip-hop collective Clement Marfo and the Frontline, and 23-year-old west London singer-songwriter Angel will perform at next Thursday's Koko launch alongside rising grime star Wretch 32, who is headlining the night.

Nine shortlisted acts will be announced on the night in contention for the competition which has tipped for success such artists as Tinie Tempah, Adele, Ellie Goulding and Jessie J.

Having recently supported the likes of Plan B, Dizzee Rascal and Florence + the Machine, Clement Marfo and the Frontline have already earned themselves a devout live following. Formed only two years ago in south London the group have since made a huge impact on the UK urban scene, and with this week's release of new single 'Overtime' they are hotly tipped for success.

For the first time this year's event will include one unsigned act, and applications to enter the unsigned competition can be made at brandnewunsigned.mtv.co.uk.

In addition to the star-studded nominees show, MTV Live is to host a further two gigs in the new year showcasing the shortlisted artists alongside major headline acts.

Tickets for next Thursday's show are on sale at mtv.co.uk/brandnewtickets.
