Can this be a first for London: simultaneous premieres of operas by black composers? Both are based on fact and each creates its own world with differing degrees of success.

The twins in Errollyn Wallen's opera are black sisters who refuse to speak except to each other, and are sent to Broadmoor.

April de Angelis's libretto mixes realism with grotesquerie, and Wallen's score juxtaposes spiky lyricism with raucous pop episodes.

Martin Constantine's production skilfully shows the twins' imagined world closing in around them; their logical responses are magically brought to life by Alison Crookendale and Talise Trevigne. The Quiet Twins moves and disturbs.

The Silent Twins runs until 16 July. Information: 020 7359 4404
