The Prodigy keep fans bouncing

Essex dance veterans The Prodigy have been a well-oiled touring machine since the Nineties, so it’s no surprise they can sell out two nights at Wembley and another in Brixton this week.
Their loyal following is built on menacing old hits but with their new number one album Invaders Must Die, The Prodigy feel relevant once more.
From the opening bass throb during World’s on Fire, this performance had you bouncing around to the rebooted rave as well as grimacing at the often overpowering aural assault. Admittedly, comeback single Omen didn’t sound much different from what they were doing in 1994 but its sheer potency blasts their dance rivals out of the water.
While Liam Howlett and an energetic drummer powered the tunes, the redoubtable Keith Flint and Maxim Reality rapped, danced and screamed for 90 minutes, taunting the audience into a sweaty celebration of their anthems and vaguely anti-authority stance. "Together we can burn it down," bawled Flint during a racing rendition of Firestarter.
Their hits have become over-familiar, not least because Howlett had a creatively fallow period that lasted a decade. But alongside the big beats of Poison and the rush of No Good (Start the Dance), their new material held its own: Warrior’s Dance tested the old fans’ energy levels with its demanding beats-per-minute, while Take Me to the Hospital resembled a Dalek raving.
Nevertheless, the noisiest reaction was reserved for the 17-year-old Out of Space. It should sound even better in the sunshine at the summer festivals.
