The show at a gallery in Soho features pictures of the musician at every stage of his career.
The images were captured by 18 of the world's top photographers. They include Herb Schmitz, who took the only known photo of Hendrix with Eric Clapton at the Speakeasy club in London in 1967, and British jazz photographer David Redfern, who captured the guitarist at the Isle of Wight.
There are also images from David Montgomery and Karl Ferris, who captured Hendrix at the Royal Albert Hall.
The star lived in London for a time and died in the capital in 1970, aged 27.
Life Through A Lens is the first major Hendrix exhibition to take place here since items of his rock memorabilia were shown at the revived Marquee Club in 2004.
The show will run at the Blink Gallery, 11 Poland Street W1, from 8 February until 8 March.
