The best bars for Valentine's

12 Feb 2008

Whether you are after a quick drink before a meal or show, or looking to spend the entire evening drinking, we pick out some of London's most romantic bars.

Gordon's
47 Viller's Street, WC2 (020 7930 1408)
If it's a romantic, candlelit environment with a gently buzzing atmosphere you're after, try this wine bar in vaulted arches beneath Charing Cross Station. Great wines, good food, agreeable prices and dreamily romantic.

City Pride
28 Farringdon Lane, Clerkenwell, EC1 (020 7608 0615)
Join forces with your partner and take part in this pleasant Fuller's pub's Valentine's Day quiz. There will be special offers on the decent pub food, and a good selection of ales on tap.

The Jerusalem Tavern
55 Britton Street, EC1 (020 7490 4281)

The Fest
678 - 680 Fulham Road, SW6 (020 7736 5293)
Why limit yourself to one date this Valentine's Day, when you can bash through five every 15 minutes at this Octoberfest Pub. For £5 you can sift through your pick of partners during an evening's speed dating.

Dion Champagne and Wine Bar
Paternoster House, 65 St Pauls Churchyard, EC4 (020 7248 8880)
Located beneath the inspiring St Paul's Cathedral, what better way to treat your Valentine than sipping champagne at this great venue.

St Pancras Champagne Bar
St Pancras International Station, Kings Cross, NW1 (020 3006 1552)
Europe's longest champagne bar stretches for over 90 metres and can accommodate close to 1,400 champagne flutes lined-up side-by-side. Only opened last November, be one of the first couples to spend Valentine's night at this new London landmark.

The Gun
27 Coldharbour, Docklands, E14 (020 7515 5222)
With roaring fires and beautiful river views, this is a fine pub for a bit of romance.

The One Tun
58-60 Goodge St, Fitzrovia, W1
Not exactly getting into the spirit of things, the One Tun guarantees a non-romantic Valentine's evening, for you and your friends to enjoy.
