Buckingham is a good place for a natter

Quite a handsome pub dating from the 1840s that draws in crowds from the local civil service offices and nearby Buckingham Palace. It's very much a blokes' pub - and it seems like it always has been - it was entirely populated with them when we were in last.

That said, groups of office workers do often establish beachheads, taking advantage of the decent Young's beer on the hand pumps and good food at reasonable prices and they do have a wine list.

It's a good place to go for a natter in the afternoon or to read the paper over a late, leisurely lunch. They do have a telly, but we've never seen more than BBC or nationally televised sport on it, so don't expect Sky coverage.

It can get busy at lunchtime, and after 5 most days, getting absolutely rammed on Friday nights. Still, it's a lovely pub and worth a visit, with its excellent beer and genial atmosphere.
