London,

Windsor Castle

Description: Originally boasting views of Windsor Castle, this pub was aptly named after one of the Royal homes. The bar area has two panels providing a rather unique setting which is divided into three areas. There was an 'upper class' and 'lower class' area as well as a section called the 'Sherry Bar' which was exclusive to women only. Featured in the Good Pub Guide 2008, this is a traditional pub with a fireplace that serves a variety of dishes. Their beer garden is available for use in warmer months.

Windsor Castle
Windsor Castle: A pleasant place when not crowded

7 Aug 2007

A fine old pub that wouldn't be out of place in a much more rural setting, the Windsor Castle has been a favourite with the Fancyapint? reviewers for years.

It's a rambling, higgledy-piggledy place, with the sort of pub interior you'd expect to find in Treasure Island - including forehead-bashing little doors in the partitions.

The beer is pretty good with excellent well-kept real ales on the hand pumps - Pride, Landlord, Sunchaser and Old Rosie (OK so that one's cider) on the last visit - and so is the food. True it is pricey, but that's hardly a surprise considering where it pub's located.

There's a very agreeable enclosed beer garden out the back, but it's unlikely you'll find a seat on a warm summer's evening, but for a leisurely weekday lunch it's an excellent spot.

The Windsor Castle's a very pleasant place when it's not crowded and when it is, it's often a jolly crowd.

FOOD REVIEW: Decent upper-class pub grub: steaks, burgers, bangers, and veggie options - nicely presented and not too pricey.
