Duke of Wellington: Small but perfectly formed

Look here too

Small but perfectly formed, this busy little Shepherd Neame house offers a glimpse of how great a pub can be.

With a pleasing mix of punters and a warm atmosphere, it's just the sort of place made for a cosy drink on a dark winter's night. There are three good ales on tap and simple, old-school pub grub on offer - sandwiches don't come with meticulously arranged hand-cut wedges here.

Indeed, the price of food is equally old-school, in some cases half that of nearby Chelsea gastropubs. Sadly, the first class landlord who used to greet people with that simple yet increasingly rare question "How are you?" has now moved on, but the service here is still friendly and attentive.

Although it sports a Belgravia post code, it's a lot more down to earth than its location suggests and, along with the nearby Antelope, is worth seeking out.

FOOD REVIEW: Good old ordinary pub grub - a good and hearty menu. Fish & chips, pies with veg, burgers, jacket potatoes, sandwiches etc. Nothing priced over £8. Serves until 9pm during the week.
