St George & The Dragon: The best pub in Acton

Look here too

The Remarkable Restaurants group run pubs which usually get a good reception, so we're happy to report their new effort tops them all. After being closed for a while, they were lucky to have taken over a building with a centuries-old history, but they nonetheless make the most of the opportunity - and who could blame them.

We particularly liked the wintry nooks and crannies panelled in dark wood, which features a fantastic 17th-century fireplace, rediscovered after (potentially) decades boarded up.

None of it, however, feels twee or overbearing and for contrast there's also a bright and airy back room, its high ceilings tempered with a couple of art nouveau statues and a huge mural.

Indeed, every aspect of the décor is well thought out and designed - as is the food, which was top notch. It was also nice to be served by people who actually seemed to be having a good time working - a rarity these days.

This pub illustrates that when thought and time are put into a pub, the results speak for themselves. This is, hands down, the best pub in Acton or indeed the surrounding area.

FOOD REVIEW: The burger (served on a large chopping board) was clearly hand made and well worth the £8.95. A side dish of honey roasted root veg we also ordered (to help towards our five portions a day) was also excellent.
