A great bar: Lincoln Lounge

10 Mar 2008

From the exterior, this wasn't too promising. Stuck on barren York Way, outside it looked like a mercilessly renovated pub, reminiscent of a rundown 80s wine bar.

Thankfully, then, inside was a pleasant surprise. The 'lounge' in the name is accurate, as armchairs and settees were the order of the day, even if it limits the seating somewhat.

With walls covered in cow parsley patterns, along with a huge mural on the back wall and a giant world map, it makes for an eclectic and bohemian atmosphere.

It's the kind of pub you could've found in Hoxton 15 years ago - tatty but vibrant, unpretentious and friendly. Regular live music, art exhibitions and even a book exchange all add to impression that this is more than your usual bar.

It's understandably popular (for those 'in the know', at least) and in a pattern reminiscent of Shoreditch, another sign that Kings Cross is becoming the place to be. Put simply this is a great bar and is wholly recommended.
