The Old Shoreditch Station is not just for trainspotters

The Old Shoreditch Station
Steaming: The original staircase leading to a now non-existent train platform is still present

18 Mar 2008

A diminutive, fairly new addition to the Hoxton scene, The Old Shoreditch Station is a café/bar unsurprisingly set in the original Shoreditch railway station building.

It is a tiny place and until recently there was seating for as little as 20 or so people, but they've now expanded into the shop next door increasing capacity by 100 per cent. Even so, it can get rather crowded later in the evening, but if you're able to get a seat and space on one of the great 1950s coffee tables to rest your drink, there's a very comfortable and unrushed atmosphere.

The choice of drink isn't spectacular, focusing mainly on spirits (although the Stella Artois Bock went down nicely), but on the whole we warmed rather nicely to the place.

With many try-too-hard, perpendicular anodyne bars around for us, The Old Shoreditch Station provided a refreshing antidote. Oh and if you're a railway enthused Hoxtonite, you can see (en route to the toilet) the original staircase leading up to a non-existent platform for a train station long since gone.
