Friendly vibe at King Charles I
5 Aug 2008
A compact, one-roomed affair, this pub even manages to shoehorn in a bar billiards table into the clutter of nicknacks on display. This does provide a pleasing independent air to proceedings, with a decent range of beers on offer - Brain's SA and Adnams Broadside were on when we were in last - as well as a few decent bottled ciders.
Mix all that up and you have an atmosphere conducive to settling in for a couple of hours. As it's situated on a side-street off the King's Cross end of Caledonian Road, it's perhaps more convivial than you might expect, and it's a pleasant discovery should you (for some reason) be wandering round the back streets of King's Cross. Note that it doesn't offer food - though you can order your lunch at the cafe over the road and they'll bring it across to you. It's that sort of pub. Oh, and it seems to be vying for the award for smallest men's toilet in London, too - don't go in with a friend.

visited this pub a few times while on vacation march 1-8. staff were very friendly and i loved the down home feel of the pub. nice fire in the fireplace. kudos to the barkeep who worked for brodies and suggested the brodies mild. it was quite enjoyable. the brodies british was a good beer choice too. i also had a sunshine ale and one i cant remember the name. this is def a place to kick back and relax and its minutes from the kings cross st pancras station. cheers

I gather that Mr Thomason likes this place - but two (nearly) identical reviews seems a bit much.

Best pub in Kings Cross and now my local - a distance of 220 miles away, as weekly visits to London have increased in frequency due to the great craic with the locals and great nights at the bar billiards table. One of most extensive juke boxes too - pity all the Northerners rushing to get back up North - they are missing a gem!

Discovered on London business trip 2 years ago, has become the main reason for visiting the big smoke (meetings are just the excuse to be there!).
Call it my local (though 220 miles away) and the regulars are a great bunch; pity all the northerners rushing to the station to get back up north - you are all missing out big time!
