The Cardinal

Description: The Cardinal gets its name from the Roman Catholic Church of Britain which is located nearby. Portraits of cardinals hanging from the walls continue the theme. The panelled walls, mahogany bar and beautiful fireplace give this pub an elegant atmosphere. There is a restaurant upstairs which can cater for private parties of up to 150 guests upon request.

The Cardinal

Cardinal attracts loyal following

Cardinal
Own beers: only Sam Smith's at The Cardinal

24 Feb 2009

We like this place - it's a very comfortable Sam Smith's pub almost right next to Westminster Cathedral, in the very shadow of that venerable London landmark.

Its proximity to the cathedral means that the walls are covered in portraits of Popes, Cardinals and various other papist royalty. We've yet to see any of the neighbours in here, but it does attract a regular following.

As is usual for Sam Smith's, there is nothing else on offer than their own beers - if you want something else, we're afraid you're stuffed. It has an extensive menu, with good, inexpensive food, and a lovely Victorian interior.

This one is definitely worth a look if you're in the area, and it is open at weekends too. Give this one a go before mass, if nothing else.

NEAREST STATION: Victoria station
FEATURES: real ales - all Sam Smith's, function room available, separate restaurant, Sky TV (big screen)

Details are correct at the time of publication - please check with venue before booking.
