The Hobgoblin is worth a closer look

The Hobgoblin
A happy-mix: The Hobgoblin

29 May 2009

As the Wychwood Brewery is now owned by Marstons, we were concerned that it may have an effect on pubs like this, at least as far as the beer is concerned - we worried in vain.

Nothing's really changed, and you can still get Hobgoblin on the pumps, alongside two London area beers (Pride and Wandle).

It's got tables and leaning areas outside, but step inside and you'll find a jolly traditional pub and one that houses a happy mix all-round.

It sits on a quiet corner of this delightful area, two minutes from Marylebone station and the unstoppable A40.

It's on a road that mixes Georgian charm with the calling card of the Luftwaffe, the latter the fate of the pub's earlier building.

The pub caters equally well for a good mix of locals and suits, and offers Thai food and Sunday Roasts.

For those in party mood there are Jugs of Vodka Red Bull or Pimm's, and you can even hire the cellar bar.

The staff are friendly and helpful and while it attracts local workers, it's often possible to get a seat. Worth a look.

NEAREST STATION: Marylebone station

FOOD REVIEW: Decent Thai pub grub prepared by Thai staff. Rightly popular with local workers.

Not a bad pub.The Thai food can be a bit overpowering and the beers are a bit hit and miss but off the beaten track and nice and quiet at weekends.Gets mobbed every night in the week and you can't get near the bar but the staff are friendly and the barmaids are attractive.
Worth a visit.Knocks spots off that Swan and Edgar round the corner anyway!
