The Abbey works as a 'Bar-Restaurant-Garden'
22 Jul 2009
There was a rash of relaunches and makeovers of the pubs and bars in these parts over the last few years. The Jorene Celeste became the Oxford; the Verge became the Bullet Bar, Auntie Annie's Porter House changed beyond all recognition, whilst the Abbey kept its name but replaced its interior.
When it opened it offered a selection of Belgian beers not a great deal different to Quinns, though what with The Abbey styling itself as a 'Bar-Restaurant-Garden' you'll gather it was aiming at a different demographic.
The one-roomed gastropub open plan look has been avoided here, and the generous outside seating packs them in when the sun shines in NW1 (and when it doesn't, the treehouse-esque space on the roof is a great place to hide away in).
There doesn't appear to be as many beers on tap as there once was, but there's still some decent bottles in the fridge.
The food menu has a Caribbean twist, along with standard pub favourites, and judging by what we saw is worth a try. There is sometimes live music and DJs and all in all this one fits together comfortably and certainly does the job for us.

Do not even think about going ot this place to eat unless you have 4 hours towaste while you wait for just one course. Disorganised, unfriendly, average food. Complained several times about the wait and wanted to walk out. But we had pre paid at the bar. And hour and a half later, some of the meals finally arrived. 3 orders still wrong though. Heard similar stories from others. Dont bother!
