Filling in: Big Jonty took over the reins from Big Brother

Look here too

Big Brother took a day off and let the housemates run the place for themselves.

Jonty Stern was elected by the other contestants to fill the Big Brother role temporarily.

Using How To Be Big Brother: A Housemate's Guide, he swotted up on Diary Room etiquette and ran a makeshift room based inside the Vestibule.

During their chats with Big Jonty, the housemates were allowed to discuss nominations and the nomination process if they wished.

Twins Amanda and Sam Marchant asked him for music - including the song Barbie Girl by Aqua - and a bouncy castle for a party. Minutes later the thumping anthem was pumped through the house.

When the real Big Brother returned yesterday evening, Ziggy Lichman popped into the diary room for a chat and hinted that he'd like the job on next year's show.

"I'd like to say thank you," he said. "This is probably going to be my last long conversation I think. Thank you very much for picking me - I hope I've done alright.

"I think people should try Big Brother because it's not life-changing, but it is life-enriching.

"Next year, if you've got the auditions, then I'll come and help, if you need anyone."
