No ticket to see Leonardo or James Corden? Better leave town

There's a new currency in town. Gold bars, Swiss francs and Chinese yuan? So last month. If you want the kind of kudos cash can't buy, you need the right tickets in your wallet.

How to become a drop-out and an unqualified success

University drop-outs once inspired our sympathy - we worried not only for their limited futures and social isolation but also for their disappointed parents.

Supergirl

Super people - the job recruits prepped for success

Harry Stevenson, a currency trader with offices around the world, including London, informs me: "I'm hiring a Super!" His "Super" is half-Chinese, half-Bulgarian and speaks not one but "all the main European languages". She has a maths, economics and business degree (from Sofia University in Bulgaria and the LSE) and was one of the youngest graduates ever to be hired in London by Goldman Sachs (she got bored after one year). She is 24.
Pret a diner

London's stealth businesses

Take a left at the Tube station, and a right down a small alley," a female voice directed. "When you see a black building with no number but three green dots, that's us."

The London shop that combines everything

Music, eating and gardening are right up there at the top of Londoners' favourite pastimes, so why not do them all in the one place?
andism

The age of andism

Two mothers were recently boasting about their offspring, both recent British graduates of Stanford University.

I became a hate figure for writing about my kids

I recommend that Rachel Johnson watch her back. Though I'm sure she wrote about her teenage daughter's Brazilian waxing with amusement, it's not how the world sees it.

Join me in my year of living on the edge

Given that we're on the cusp of being able to reverse ageing (some very exhausted mice in Professor Dr Ronald DePinto's lab at Harvard are presently reproducing madly even though they were technically 80 before he injected them), it's not physical deterioration we should be worrying about but keeping an open mind and an open heart.

White's over for home decor

The official end of the tyranny of "white" came on the night architect John Pawson's retrospective show Plain Space recently opened at the Design Museum (it runs through to January).

Art House: giving your home a splash of colour

Frieze hasn't even started and already tourists are gathering in front of artist Hugo Dalton's work painted on the outside of a £4 million Notting Hill terraced house. The giant, pale-blue morning glory flower covering four floors and even the drainpipes and joinery has become a neighbourhood talking piece. Art collector owners Robert and Sue Stirling are thrilled with the result. So are the neighbours. "Everyone was very supportive and several have already asked for Hugo's details," says Sue. Though the house is in a conservation area, the council's only stipulation was that the painting couldn't be used for commercial advertising.
