Andy Palacio

Dance to an old rhythmn

Andy Palacio, musician and ambassador for Belize's National Institute Of Culture And History, receives a call. The Crazy Frog ringtone erupts from his pocket.
Jenny Jules

Shining through a fog

Jenny Jules is fit to burst with excitement. Despite a full day's rehearsals, she enters the room like a whirlwind, laughing, joking, restlessly shifting about in her seat. Mention the fact she's achieving one of her goals by performing at the Almeida and she squeals with delight.

Clunky and cliched in the country

When the chair of the Commission for Racial Equality Trevor Phillips described a 'passive apartheid' at work in the British countryside, it inspired Pentabus Theatre company to pack a bunch of writers off to Shropshire to see for themselves. The resulting seven short monologues
have been run together to form White Open Spaces - but, unlike Phillips's inflammatory comments, none of them really packs much of a punch.

Celebrity chef on drink-drive charge

Television chef Keith Floyd has been charged with drink-driving after a headon crash. The 60-year-old, who lives in Oxford, was held after his Peugeot 806 collided with a Land Rover Discovery, causing minor injuries to its female driver. Floyd failed a road-side breath test after last night's accident in Wiltshire. He is due to appear before magistrates at Swindon on 23 November.

New look for The Barnsbury

The Barnsbury is yet another pub that has undergone the Islington tarting-up process. That's polished wood, tea lights on the tables, art on the walls and no sign of anyone who looks like a regular pubgoer. Anodyne was the word that sprung to mind, though we liked the wine-glass chandeliers - and the wine list, which featured a good range and plenty of organic options.

Forster's all the raj

EM Forster's novel is such a complex work that it would seem impossible to do it justice on the stage, but Shared Experience has created a wonderful piece of theatre which skilfully captures the themes and flavour of the book without getting bogged down in detail.

Rising Rhianna Leeds the way

Rhianna Kenny doesn't fit easily into any blueprint for a soul sensation. Leeds born and bred, she's a disarmingly bubbly 19-year-old with a strong streak of down-to-earth practicality.
