Aggreko ups dividend as profit soars by 19%

Temporary power group Aggreko did so well out of the World Cup and Winter Olympics it today posted a 19% rise in pre-tax, half-year profit to £127.1 million.

The firm raised the interim dividend 50% to 6.55p "reflecting very high levels of profit growth over recent years and confidence in the prospects for the business," it said.

Aggreko added that it had a record order book in its international power projects division.

Rupert Soames, chief executive, said: "In the first half we have laid the foundations for another year of good progress."

He added that performances in the international power projects and events divisions underlined "the strength and global reach of our business".

The firm delivered broadcasting power to all 10 football World Cup venues in South Africa and came on top of strong service to the Winter Olympics. Its North American business supplied more than 1,800 electrical panels, 750 electrical transformers and 500 miles of cable, servicing 52 venues.

The group, which has also provided temporary power for the Eurovision Song Contest and the UK and US golf Open Championships, joined the FTSE 100 Index in December last year after a strong run for its share price.

Panmure Gordon stockbrokers raised its share price target for Aggreko following the results. A broker said: "The order book remains strong and cash flow is excellent, while the unexpected dividend hike of 50% suggests great confidence in 2011 and beyond."
