BA director sacked in 2006 is still being paid

Disgraced British Airways director Martin George, dismissed in 2006 for his role in a price-fixing scandal, has received more than £1.1 million from the carrier - and is still getting money.

BA's annual accounts out today reveal it paid George £213,000 in the year to 31 March because he had been unable to find work since being sacked in October 2006 when chief executive Willie Walsh fingered him over sharing fare-pricing information with rival Virgin Atlantic.

The payment is on top of £263,000 in severance payments he received in the previous financial year. George also received £273,000 in defence costs from BA last year as the airline's former commercial director continues to try to clear his name. He received £356,000 in legal fees the previous year.

The accounts admit: "Further amounts are likely to be payable." BA was fined £350 million over the scandal.
