BG is starting its production at key Brazilian oilfield

Energy group BG today began production from one of its key oilfields in the new Klondike for offshore exploration, Brazil.

Tupi, as the field is known, is in the Santos basin and is estimated to hold between five billion and eight billion barrels of oil. BG said production at the 100,000 barrels-per-day Tupi facilities confirmed the field's potential.

"The extensive exploration and appraisal programme, and subsequent analysis to date, confirms the huge resource potentialand robust economics of the Tupi-Iracema discovery," chief executive Frank Chapman said.

BG has a 25% stake in the BM-S-11 concession, containing the Tupi-Iracema discoveries.
